Moving Forward

I always saw the value in this course IS-101 for my major, but actually coming to class and seeing it wasn't just learning how to operate Microsoft Office was a nice surprise. Professor Wu is very meticulous on how assignments should be done and now I understand that it was good reason, we won't always get the chance to mess up like we do sometimes in a classroom setting.

Due to this blog assignment and the PowerPoint presentations everyone did, it was fun learning a little more about the people around me that I otherwise would not have gotten to know.

I chose topic 6.10.2 PowerPoint Print Options. I had never had to print out a PowerPoint presentation myself so I was unaware of the options available to you when you wanted to print one. I found to be a useful skill, knowing I am able to print a handout that looks neat and is practical with just a few clicks in the print settings.

My slideshow topic was the USS Indianapolis Tragedy one of the deadliest shark attacks in American history.

  1. Hi Valeria, honestly being meticulous is really important in an office setting because one small mistake in documentation can create a lot of problems, especially when dealing with clients. That is why jobs like QA analysts exist, because everything needs to be double checked before it gets finalized.

Also, I do not know what year you are in school, but I am warning you now, there are going to be a lot of PowerPoint presentations in college. At the beginning I used to print one slide per page and completely destroy my paper supply, so I had to force myself to learn how to print multiple slides on one page just to survive nursing presentations with more than 100 slides. Usually I do two or six slides per page now depending on how much information is on the screen because otherwise the amount of paper wasted becomes painful to look at.

  3. Hi Valeria, I think the PowerPoint presentations were my favorite part of this course. Getting to know people's interests was fun. I also initially expected this class to be purely mechanical work, but it proved otherwise.

  4. At first I also thought it was just going to be basic computer skills, but it actually teaches you a lot about paying attention to details and doing things the right way. And I thought it was really nice how you mentioned getting to know your classmates a bit more through the blogs and presentations, even if we don’t talk to everyone directly.

  5. Hi Valeria, I also really enjoyed learning about the print options. I didn’t know you could print notes or slides with extra space to take notes, and I honestly think that’s such a useful feature.

  6. The presentation that you made made me curious about the other ships or any military vehicles that had been destroyed and consumed by nature. It is grueling and horrific to think about what happened to those soldiers, yet so interesting how everything happened from the start! Thank you for the insight about that subject!

Hopefully you can use what we learned in this class in the outside world effectively and wishing you the best for the future!

  7. It was great to learn these components of Microsoft but we were able to take away so much more valuable things in how we should handle future jobs, classes, and even life. Attention to detail and patience is a great mindset to follow through on.

  8. It was great to learn a little more about other classmates we would otherwise know nothing about through blog posts. Gaining more knowledge about printing is always good because it never seems to go right when you need it to. I remember being really interested by your presentation in class, it's a unique topic I've never seen anyone present before.

  9. Hi Valeria. What stood out to me is how important it is to make sure documents are error-free before submitting them. This is good practice for creating documents for professional settings as even small mistakes can affect the professionalism of a document.

  11. Hey Valeria, I would really really (and I can't emphasize this enough) really love to see your presentation! These kinds of topics are my biggest interests and I have an entire youtube playlist filled with it. I bet you did an awesome job presenting it!
