Moving Forward

I always saw the value in this course IS-101 for my major, but actually coming to class and seeing it wasn't just learning how to operate Microsoft Office was a nice surprise. Professor Wu is very meticulous on how assignments should be done and now I understand that it was good reason, we won't always get the chance to mess up like we do sometimes in a classroom setting.

Due to this blog assignment and the PowerPoint presentations everyone did, it was fun learning a little more about the people around me that I otherwise would not have gotten to know.

I chose topic 6.10.2 PowerPoint Print Options. I had never had to print out a PowerPoint presentation myself so I was unaware of the options available to you when you wanted to print one. I found to be a useful skill, knowing I am able to print a handout that looks neat and is practical with just a few clicks in the print settings.

My slideshow topic was the USS Indianapolis Tragedy one of the deadliest shark attacks in American history.

Keeping Up

Phase 2 was a lot harder for me than I first thought it would be, Excel was tougher than I had imagined. My motivation took a hit and I struggled to keep up with my work, but the semester's not over yet and I am determined to finish strong.

I chose the topic 5.9.4 Formulas in Tables. I learned a lot from excel, learning how useful tables can be in handling information has been helpful. Once the information and formulas are input it gives us calculated columns that update on their own if anything changes the whole table gets automatically updated.

I feel like phase 2 has shown me a lot of necessary skills that I would be using while pursuing a degree in accounting since spreadsheets are a huge part of the work. After falling behind and barely catching up on work, I will definitely be doing more to improve and do my best to keep up as well as getting ahead and getting the most out of my classes.

How It's Going

After completing phase 1 of IS 101-3003, I feel as though I could have done better managing my time to complete my assignments. LabSim was very easy to complete so I would sometimes leave it until the very end. Moving forward I will be taking extra time to make sure I am keeping up with labs and actually understanding the material. I will also be making sure to go over the study guides for the bonus quizzes well before the day of the quiz to make sure I remember the topics and understand them better as well.

For my topic I chose 4.9.3 Word Templates. Word has a huge array of templates available for users to utilize and customize. I am not very handy or creative so templates can really help in guiding on a nice layout for a project.

I have passed my MO-110 Word certification exam. 😀

Coming back to college as a parent has taught me a lot about time management, but it has been very rewarding so far.

Back to School After a Long Break

Hello, my name is Valeria I am a first-year college student. I just returned to school after a long break to better myself and start looking for new growth opportunities. I came to CSN to get my Associate of Business degree. After that, transfer over to a 4-year university to get my bachelor's degree in Accounting.

The first impression I got from taking IS101 was a little intimidating, since I was nervous to be back to school. After actually doing the work and being in the class, I see the value in all assignments and LabSim labs we have done. I also really appreciate the classroom sizes and resources that CSN has to offer. I have been making sure to use the tutoring; it has helped me out a lot.

I chose 2.7.6 Programming Logic Facts. I do not have much experience in any type of programming. As I keep learning more about computer software, I want to learn more ways of programming. I am very excited to continue to work hard and start making strides towards my degree.
